I feel like I've been teasing a 'Bart vs The Space Mutants' episode of this show since we started it. It's not a great game, but I played it religiously as a kid, and I have a weird soft spot for it and it's many, many, many faults. I wasn't able to set up a regular episode of the show this week, so I'm rolling solo, and finally gushing about my favourite bad game of all-time.

 

I gotta say, I'm a little shocked that so many people played this one back in the day. It was one of the first Simpsons video games, it released during Simpsons-mania, and maybe we hasn't realized that buying a Simpsons game in the 90's was akin to burning your money. Or singing it, anyway (shout out to anyone that gets that reference).

 

And before we talk about Bart looking for purple coloured items, it's time for another edition of the 'Remember The Game Infamous Intro'! 

 

This week, we talk about Nintendo 64 games coming to the Nintendo Switch, because like it or not, a lot of people are talking about it. We also talk about what difficulty setting we normally play games on, and is it reasonable to have high expectations for the new upcoming Ghostbusters flick?

It's pretty rare that we get to talk about an iconic gaming character's debut, so episodes like this hit a little harder for me. And when you add in my previous traumatic experiences with Kirby's Dream Land, and I really feel like I'm taking a big step on the podcast this week. 

 

And if you're wondering, "how someone could have a traumatic experience with a Kirby game?" Well, you'll have to listen and find out.

Holes burnt in your palms be damned, Mario Party is a special franchise. Has it lost its way at times over the past 20+ years? No question. But it just seems like everybody has played these games from time to time over the years, and wheel e may not love every iteration, we all get hella excited when a new one is announced. 

 

So this week, former RTG Hall of Famer Mark McCue and I are taking a look back at the franchise that is Mario Party. From the 64, to the Gamecube, to that God awful Wii U iteration, we're covering it all this week. The games really do kind of bleed together, so I thought trying to review one in particular might be a little tough. And I love this series too much to risk leaving out any of the good games (of which there's quite a few). Let's a go!

I don't know how Nintendo convinced all of us to accept the idea that Mario is a Doctor now, but they did it. And thank fuck they did, because this game is just...really, really good. 

 

Dr. Mario might not be as iconic as Tetris, but to anyone that grew up playing it on their NES (or GameBoy), it's pretty damned close. From the multiplayer, to firing it right up to level 20, to that damned music; this is just a really special video game.

 

My fellow old-timer/comedian/podcast host David Rae joins me on the show this week, and we just had a really great time talking about a game that we both grew up loving. And playing with our parents, which isn't something I can say about another game. Long live Dr. Mario.

I ignored the Spyro games when they came out. I was in high school and they looked like games for babies. But I've played the first two games now, and you know what? They're pretty damned fun. Maybe a little baby-ish, but so are those digestive cookies. And those things are fucking delicious. 

 

Does Spyro 2 stay on the rails and just improve on the original game's formula? Or does it get a little too zany and stray too far off the course? Honestly, I think it does a little bit of both. But there's WAY more good than bad in this game. Remove Moneybags and it's almost perfect. Fucking greasebag.

 

My pal Darren returns to the show this week. He was my guest for our last Spyro episode, he's a huge fan of the franchise, but he has some mixed opinions on Ripto's Rage. Have a listen and see what we like, and don't like, about raging Ripto (awesome villain, BTW).

There were so many bad games on the NES. I love that little grey box, but I'd say 70-75% of the library was forgettable. And Skate or Die is one of those bad games. But for whatever reason, it isn't forgettable. It seems like EVERYONE played this game at least once or twice. 

 

And honestly, once or twice was enough. This game suuuucks haha.

 

My buddy Brad returns to RTG Industries this week, and we talk about the dope soundtrack, the great...box art. The title screen was nice. And the we shit all over everything after you press start, because...ugh.

This week is one of our prestigious Patreon Poll winner episodes, and we're talking about a game that launched one of Playstation's flagship franchises, and a title many consider to be amongst the best the PS2 has to offer - God of War. 

 

I've only ever played the most recent God of War title, (on the PS4), so many of you warned me that the previous games in the series were a little different to 2018's. I expected a hack and slash beat 'em up with Gods yelling at each other; and for better (and) worse, that's what I got. 

 

My childhood chum Daniel pops by the podcast this week, and we had a long chat about the pros and cons of Kratos's gaming debut (and there's definitely a few of each). I hope those of you that love this game still love me when you're done!

It took 159 podcasts, but we're finally talking about the damned Nintendo Wii. And what better way to start than with the flagship title for Nintendo's little white phenomenon; Wii Sports!

 

Like the Wii or not, Wii Sports was a HUGE game. In my opinion, it played a bigger role than any other title in helping the Wii set the record sales numbers it did. Maybe everyone didn't want to play Mario or Zelda, but who doesn't like to go bowling?

 

My guest this week is my buddy Bradley McCue, who was actually the one that suggested Wii Sports as a game for the podcast in the first place. And dammit, it was a hell of a suggestion. A lot of good times (and the odd hole in the wall) with this bad boy.
